Today, my forearms are sore arms, and I love it. I printed my first two color screen print over the weekend!
It was a long road—a lot of trial and error and a lot of frustration were involved. Exposure times, mesh counts, even coating, washing out the screen after burning it—all of them had beaten me down for the past month and a half. Finaly, FINALLY, this weekend everything came together wonderfully.
This is such a huge relief for me because I gained something more than just 40 new prints over the weekend—I fulfilled a years-long dream. Ever since I graduated from UW Madison, I wanted to have my own space where I could pull my own prints. Someplace I could have control. Someplace where I could break a small sweat and create something nice in the process. I never gave up on that goal. Here I am 6 years later with sore arms and everything is OK.
One of the first things I discovered when I moved to Minneapolis 3 years ago was the Surly Brewing Co and their fine assortment of beers. So when I heard they were having a contest to design their new coasters, I had enter. After looking for inspiration-i.e. drinking some Furious-I came up with this design.
Here’s my submission to the Sound Unseen poster contest. Sound Unseen is a Film/Music/Art Festival with a Minnesota flavor—specifically Duluth. I threw in the Lift Bridge, a couple water towers, and a gopher. I think gophers are more of Twin Cities thing, so, to cover my bases, his clothing is inspired by Duluth-born Bob Dylan.
The Image-Maker as Tragic & Ecstatic. Type for part 5 of a 6 part series of articles on proxart.org.
I’ve had a blast working on titles for a weekly series of articles by James Patrick for ProxArt. This is actually the third in the series but for some reason it’s the first one I’m sharing with y’all. I’ll trickle out the rest over the next few weeks.
Over the past year, my illustration work has taken over my website. My design work didn’t seem to fit on a website full of monsters so next week I’ll be launching a new site for my design portfolio akindriot.com.
